Frank-hearted (Frankenstein)

". . . she looked so frank-hearted and happy." (44)

Frank-hearted, meaning open-hearted is queite commical. This is Mary Shelley's way of adding some humour and setting a more light-hearted mood.

  1. Why would she do that here -- is it here being deliberately comical or is it more like a wry little joke -- can you explain the joke at all?
